Germany play Spain in their second match of the Qatar World Cup

Germany take on Spain in one of the biggest early clashes of the tournament inGroup E. The last time these two sides met in November 2020, Spain won a resounding 6-0 victory in the Nations League.

Chelseas Kai Havertz and Manchester Citys Ilkay Gundogan lead theGerman squad, whileWorld Cupwinning goalscorer Mario Gotze has been called up for Qatar despite not playing for his country for five years.

Germany will be hoping to improve on their performance at the 2018 World Cup, when they failed to advance beyond the group stages for the first time in history.

Sergio Busquets will captain his national side as Spains most capped player, with 139 appearances. He is one of seven Barcelona playersto make the squad.

Spain are full of young talent, including Golden Boy winner Gavi and Euro 2020 Young Player of the Tournament Pedri, and will look to go far in this tournament. They also have a World Cup-winning captain in Busquets and a coach with an illustrious track-record in Luis Enrique.

The match between Germany and Spain takes place at 7pm UK time on Sunday, November 27. (This will be 10pm in Qatar and 2pm EST). It will be broadcast live on BBC 1.

The game will be played in the Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor, which is 35 miles north of Doha. The 60,000 seater ground has a retractable roof and was built for the tournament, opening last year.

It will host six group stage fixtures, including the opening game of the tournament, a quarter-final and a semi-final. It is the second-biggest of the stadiums and is eye-catching with its traditionally Arabic tented design.

Express shuttle buses will take fans to the stadium from both the centre of Doha and the Lusail Metro Station.

The match will be shown live on BBC One. You can also stream it on BBC iPlayer.

Despite easing through their World Cup qualifiers, four time World Cup winners Germany struggled in the Nations League, with a 1-0 defeat to Hungary ruling them out of next summers finals.

Hansi Flicks side arrive in Qatar after a lacklustre 1-0 victory over Oman in their only warm up game.

Spain played Jordan on Thursday in their final match before the start of the tournament.

Enriques side does not include Chelseas Kepa Arrizabalaga or Manchester Uniteds David de Gea, who were left out of the squad in favour of Brightons Robert Sanchez and Brentfords David Raya.

According to the Spanish press, de Gea received a message from the Spanish FA wrongly congratulating for his international retirement after his World Cup snub.

In other news, Spain will also have to go without their World Cup ham. According to the Spanish press, the national team usually travels with its customary Jamon Iberico to World Cup tournaments. The ham is carefully selected by the team chefs and is a firm favourite among the players. But as pork imports are banned in Qatar, the team will have to go without this time around.

Germany and Spain have played each other 33 times most recently in 2020 when Spain won 6-0.

The teams are evenly matched with Germany winning eight ,Spain winning nine and the two sides drawing eight
